Are you looking for a varied role where you will be able to rotate around a series of specialist areas? Perhaps you have an interest in Endocrinology and Diabetes? If so, we have some exciting opportunities for you on Earsham ward!

Earsham Ward is a 39 bedded ward specialising in Diabetes & Endocrinology. Joining us will give you the opportunity to rotate around several specialist areas including our inpatient ward, The Elsie Bertram Diabetes Centre and our Clinical Investigation Centre. We also have close links with our Rheumatology team who have a day unit and a specialist nursing team including Biologic nurses.

Endocrinology is an exciting, evidence based specialty that offers opportunities to learn and develop nursing practice within a supported structure. Our Endocrinologists have experience in the management of all Endocrine diseases from adrenal, pituitary disease and Diabetes.

The Elsie Bertram Diabetes Centre is a large department where diabetes is managed for the Outpatient Setting, the Community Setting and the Diabetes Specialist Nurse Inpatient Setting. Rotation would enable staff to gain valuable knowledge of this long-term condition in all these areas enhancing their ability to manage patients with diabetes on the ward and cascade that knowledge to their colleagues. There are over 20 specialist nurses in diabetes working across the three teams and we manage acute inpatients with things such as Diabetic Ketoacidosis/Hypoglycaemia/new Type 1 diagnoses as well as patients attending outpatients who need insulin pumps/antenatal patients with diabetes/transition clinics for under 25’s/gestational diabetes clinic/pre-pregnancy clinic/core diabetes clinics.

Our Clinical Investigation Unit is staffed by endocrine specialist nurses who perform dynamic function tests and other endocrine investigations to monitor or aid the diagnosis of endocrine conditions. The nurses also run nurse led clinics to advise and monitor patients with long term endocrine conditions, including thyroid disorders, growth hormone deficiency and patients requiring steroid replacement therapy. We are proud to take a holistic approach to how we care for our outpatients, often solving problems and issues thus avoiding worsening of their condition and potential hospital admission.

TeamNNUH’s Rheumatology department is a nationally recognised Centre of Excellence, who continually strives to improve the quality of care and services offered. The team is made up of several Specialist Rheumatology Nurses at varying levels with specialists in the field of Lupus, Biologics and more.

We are currently seeking compassionate, enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our friendly and dedicated team. Working as part of a full rota; you will form part of the Nursing Team as we aim to deliver the gold standard in patient care. Joining the Endocrinology team will give you the opportunity to pick up an incredible skill set as you rotate around our specialist areas; you will gain lifelong skills in diagnosis and treatment of a variety of areas of medicine. With the help of a dedicated clinical educator, you will be able to fulfill your true potential!

If you decide to join our ward, you will be joining a team of passionate, committed nurses who will support you throughout your nursing career.

We can’t wait for you to join us!

To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence.

Why NNUH?

Norfolk and Norwich university Hospital is the 6th largest acute hospital in the UK with new clinics and services being introduced each year, the possibilities are endless. For example 2018 started with us appointing Nurse Registrars and even our first Nurse Consultant. With strong links to the University of East Anglia and Norwich Research Park we want to give our staff every opportunity and the support to achieve their potential.

Why Norwich?

In Norwich a staggering 77% of people say they love their job. Although less than 2 hours from London and serviced by excellent transport links , Norwich is one of few UK cities that still retain a strong local identity and with that a strong sense of community – people walk down the street and say hello to each other, baristas remember our coffee order, you get to know about interesting local projects.

This strong sense of self along with excellent shopping, eating out, affordable house prices and excellent schooling is why Norwich has been ranked by the Guardian as the best city to work in.
