The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s team of midwives is expanding, so we are therefore seeking applications from experienced midwives, with recent post registration experience, to join the team.


Our busy maternity service provides care for approximately 5000 deliveries per year. We have a team providing community based midwifery services as well as our in-patient facilities. On site, we have 32 postnatal beds incorporating 5 transitional care beds, and 13 antenatal beds. Our Delivery Suite/Triage area has 15 birthing rooms including a birthing pool, 2 obstetric theatres, anaesthetic and recovery rooms that provide a full range of facilities for high dependency care. We also have a Maternity Assessment Unit, which offers a resource for women to attend and be reviewed as required. We also have a co-located Midwifery Led Birthing Unit which comprises of 4 birthing rooms with water birth facilities available.

We are dedicated to providing one to one care to all women in established labour and are really proud to have achieved and maintained BFI Level 3 accreditation.

Main duties of the job

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of working in an acute hospital within the last 12 months
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

Hours of Work: as this is a Bank vacancy, the hours/ shifts will vary. Our Team work a variety of shifts, predominantly long days and night shifts, with some availability of shorter early and late shifts, covering a 24 hour service every day of the year.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Working towards Mentor Preparation Programme or Equivalent, achieve within 3 yrs of qualifying
  • RM
Desirable criteria
  • Neuro-behavioural Physiological Examination of the Newborn Course
  • Neonatal Life Support Course
  • Advanced Life Support In Obstetrics Course

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 1 years post registration experience.
  • Evidence of achieving Band 6 competencies

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to participate in the running of an efficient and effective team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
