Applications are invited for the position of Healthcare Science Practitioner or Healthcare Scientist to join our friendly team in the Neurophysiology Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.  This is a substantive post. We are looking to employ only a single individual at one of the two advertised positions to fill a single vacancy. Please note on your application which post you are applying for. All shortlisted applicants are encouraged to arrange an informal visit to the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology. We expect the successful candidate to be confident, organised, have good people skills, work confidentially within a team and to use their initiative.

The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital is an academic teaching hospital located in the Science Park to the south of Norwich city center. The hospital is just 16 years old and as such the Neurophysiology Department has enviable resources. The team comprises of 8 Science Practitioners / Scientists, a Consultant Neurophysiologist (soon to become two) and 3 administrative staff. Our Department performs a full modality of Neurophysiological investigations, including EEG’s (routine, sleep, portable and ambulatory, all with video), Nerve Conduction Studies (for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Ulnar Neuropathy and Peripheral Neuropathy), Evoked Potentials (VEP, ERG (pattern and flash), EOG (all visual testing is to ISCEV standard) and SEP) and Intra Operative Monitoring for Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery. We will also be expanding our service by performing telemetry recordings from the last quarter of this year.

The department is operational from 0800 to 1800 on weekdays; there is no evening, weekend or on-call work, with the exception of occasional late working on Wednesdays for long IOM cases. We are happy to consider flexible working patterns, such as a four day week. We actively encourage CPD and have a significant training budget.

Healthcare Science Practitioner / Healthcare Scientist

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our Neurophysiology team as a Healthcare Science Practitioner or Healthcare Scientist. The job role consists of performing all routine testing, including EEG’s, NCS for CTS and VEP’s, on patients of all ages and abilities. The job also involves contribution to the day to day running of the department and training of the junior members of the team. If the successful candidate is employed into the Healthcare Science Practitioner position there is the objective to train them so that they become proficient in performing our specialist investigations (Ambulatory EEG, ERG, EOG and IOM), with a view to them working towards the position of Healthcare Scientist. They will be fully supported by a highly skilled team during this time and there will be many opportunities (and an expectation!) for them to undertake all suitable training courses. If the successful candidate is employed into the Healthcare Scientist position they will be expected to already have proficiency in performing all or the majority of the specialist investigations (Ambulatory EEG, ERG, EOG and IOM).

This post is open to all qualified individuals, whether experienced or newly qualified.
