A great opportunity to prepare for Specialty Training posts and obtain great clinical and operative experience in Plastic Surgery

Applications are invited for a Locum Appointment for Service (LAS) Core Trainee post in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, to join one of the most renowned teaching Department of Plastic and Reconstructed Surgery in the country. We are looking for a highly motivated, plastic surgery career focused candidate to undertake a full time CT1 – CT2 level job (Senior House Officer). The Department of Plastic and Reconstructed Surgery of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has strong links with the Norwich Medical School at the University of East Anglia with three Honorary Senior Lecturers. These posts provide a rare opportunity to simultaneously gain superb clinical experience in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and to get involved in research with the possibility to achieve a formal higher research degree (MD projects). These posts are ideal for candidates wishing to strengthen their ST3 application and/or start/pursue a career in Plastic Surgery. Most of the previous post holders have been successful in obtaining a training post.

The unit has 9 consultants with specialist interests in Head and Neck Surgery, Skin Cancer, Hand Surgery, Breast Reconstruction, Lower limb reconstruction, and also has a large general plastic surgery practice. There are excellent opportunities to gain hands on supervised operating experience as well as developing patient management skills. At the end of the post we would expect the applicant to be able to undertake a large range of local anaesthetic procedures with confidence, manage most plastic surgical trauma patients, undertake simple trauma cases and other simple elective general plastic surgical cases.
The post will be for a period of 6 months with a strong possibility of an extension by mutual consent up to 12 months.
