The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) is a large and vibrant teaching hospital providing a full range of acute clinical services across the county of Norfolk and surrounding areas. With its main site on the edge of the cathedral city of Norwich, a district hospital in Cromer, and other smaller community-based sites, NNUH operates at significant scale, serving a population of over one million across the region. With a clear focus on safety, quality and excellence in patient care, NNUH is three years into a five-year strategy and has made substantial progress. Building on its vision to ‘provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most’ NNUH has set out on a journey to be rated ‘outstanding’, supported by strong clinical leadership and an open, collaborative culture of learning and improvement.
NNUH is now looking for outstanding individuals to join the Board of Directors: one as clinical non-executive and the other as a general non-executive Director. Both will be members of the Board of Directors and collectively responsible for developing, monitoring and delivering the performance of the Trust, ensuring that excellence remains at its core.
The Clinical non-executive will likely have worked at executive board level as a clinician. They will bring experience of clinical governance and the seniority of view to provide guidance on clinical development to the wider board and the Trust’s executive clinical leaders. Given NNUH’s focus on deepening partnerships across the patch, experience within the acute, community or primary care environments is welcomed. Passion about patient care and public service is a must.
For the other non-executive NNUH will be looking for senior individuals with a breadth of skills to complement those of the wider board, with emphasis on individuals with senior level experience of partnership working at significant scale and organisational complexity. A background gained in transforming customer experience and staff engagement would be particularly beneficial. This experience is likely to have been gained in a customer or public facing business in the commercial, voluntary or public service sector.
The successful candidates will be dedicated to serving and improving the health of the community across Norfolk and passionate about excellence in patient care, with a keen enthusiasm and interest in the work of NNUH and its wider partners. Working with fellow board directors, the Council of Governors and other stakeholders, these individuals will have the confidence, credibility and sensitivity to engage with a wide range of audiences both within and outside the Trust.
Non-executive directors will be remunerated in the range £12,942 per annum. The time commitment will be up to 4 days per month.
